Breast Cancer and Brain Metastases
The second most typical cancer in women and the second most common cause of central nervous system metastases is breast cancer. Brain metastases will form in 30 to 50 percent of patients with metastatic breast cancer during their disease.1
Young age, and tumours that are oestrogen receptor negative, HER2-positive or of the basal phenotype are the risk factors to the development of brain metastases.2
Patients with brain metastases are expected to experience severe neurological, sensory, and cognitive decline, as well as a poor prognosis. Management for patients with brain metastases with poor outcomes is a serious challenge.3
